Matthias Iannis Portelli is a 21-year-old budding politician who’s looking to serve as a progressive alternative in this year’s upcoming MEP elections. Portelli is a member of the pan-European party Volt that’s vowed to take a pragmatic approach to politics, and instead of viewing matters from a national perspective, it views them “from a European perspective with European solutions”.

An MEP candidate from Volt Malta has spoken of the need to show the European institutions that periphery states matter, adding that "we cannot have policies that are redundant and somewhat outdated that are harming states like Malta, Spain, Cyprus, Ireland and others".
